"If the alphabet be taught to the little student, his appreciation of both form and sound will be cultivated." - Charlotte Mason

Syllabaries like these made literate generations.

Silabario hispanoamericano

Adrian Dufflocq Galdames

One should start by taking a look at a classic SILABARIO.

Perhaps the author, señor Adrian Dufflocq Galdames, would have never imagined that with his book he would simplify for teachers throughout hispanoamerica the simple mission of initiating children towards reading. Furthermore, through this book, illiterate adults, in brief periods of time, learned how to read with such a method that is simple and friendly to the student. He dedicates his book as such:

A los niños de habla española, con mi fervoroso deseo de hacerles llano y fácil el camino en este primer paso del conocimiento de nuestra hermosa lengua. (El Autor)

To the Spanish-speaking children, with my fervent desire to make straight and easy the path in this first step of knowledge of our beautiful language. (The Author)

repetition with our audio

We at academia late y llama provide the full text to our students with accompanying audio by a native Spanish speaker. Like the little hard-working dwarf, we use this text to tunnel auditory paths between the brain and the vocal instrument, so that the sounds of Spanish can build deep furrows of "muscle-memory". Take a listen below.

So much repetition throughout the years, that 90 editions have been produced and it remains in print today. It was even adapted for use with adults.

mothers and teachers are grateful

In the opening pages Juana de Ibarbourou writes, "Oh, how much gratitude must mothers and teachers have to this wonderful, talented creator, to that pure, intuitive heart that has made this perfect book for the children of the Americas!"

To drink from the old cup of tarnished, battered tin; to drink, then, from the goblet of pure crystal, where the light places, joyfully, her iris. To learn to read in the ancient heavy texts, and to learn to read in the "Silabario" of the great Chilean pedagogue Adrian Dufflocq Galdames, delicia de los ojos, grace for the understanding of the child.

students have more practice with our Moodle website

We're thrilled to share even more with our students. We offer 24/7 access to native speakers reading the syllables. Students can play the audio, we hope, dozens of times, improving their reception of the sounds so they can imitate and produce increasingly better syllables.

  • Audio: Listen to recordings by native speakers to sharpen your listening and pronunciation skills.
  • Text: Access complete texts and exercises to deepen your understanding.
  • Images: Visual aids to support and enhance your learning journey.
  • Even More Practice: Additional activities and resources designed to reinforce what you’ve learned and take your skills to the next level.

galdames005-moodle

Our Moodle platform is designed to enhance student learning journey with engaging multimedia and comprehensive resources. Students have 24/7 access to our Moodle site, where I like to tell them, they have a robot Mr. Moreno and other native speakers ready to help them pronounce the words so they can be understood when they speak to Spanish-speakers!
